BAGUIO CITY – The provincial government of Benguet and the Baguio City government have declared special nonworking holidays for teachers and other school personnel in recognition of their contributions to education.
Benguet Gov. Melchor Diclas, through Executive Order 2026-73, declared Sept. 25 a special nonworking day for teaching and non-teaching personnel in public and private schools across the province as part of the observance of National Teachers’ Month.
Diclas said the declaration recognizes the role of teachers and education workers in shaping future generations.
“It is fitting and proper for the Provincial Government of Benguet to extend its institutional recognition and appreciation to teachers and education personnel through the observance of a special non-working day dedicated to their honor,” he said.
The order cited Provincial Ordinance 15-170, as amended by Ordinance 20-266, which designates every Friday of September as Teachers’ Day in Benguet.
In Baguio City, Ordinance 5-2023 designates the first Friday of October as a special day of recognition and special nonworking holiday for learning institutions, teachers and other school personnel.
The ordinance encourages school administrations, particularly private schools, to provide employees their regular daily rate during the holiday.
The Baguio observance coincides with World Teachers’ Day and is intended to allow teachers and school personnel to take part in National Teachers’ Month activities.
The city government has allocated Php 500,000 for the celebration.
Planned activities include the recognition of outstanding teachers, teachers’ summits and forums, the National Prayer for Teachers, presentations and film screenings on teachers’ rights and welfare, wellness sessions, sports activities and other programs organized by teachers.
