Barangay Bel-Air in Makati City is taking its sustainability drive to the streets, deploying two fully electric shuttles in partnership with Movem Electric Inc. to provide residents with cleaner, quieter and more accessible community transportation.
Movem, the wholly owned end-to-end electric mobility solutions provider of Manila Electric Company, turned over the electric shuttles as part of a broader push to bring electric transport closer to everyday communities.
The new units will serve Bel-Air residents, including senior citizens, while supporting the barangay’s efforts to reduce emissions and promote environmentally responsible local governance.
Barangay Bel-Air Captain Cynthia Cervantes said the initiative demonstrates how communities can adopt practical technologies that improve residents’ quality of life while advancing sustainability goals.
“With the arrival of two new electric shuttles for our residents, we celebrate another step toward a cleaner, greener, and more accessible Barangay Bel-Air,” Cervantes said.
She added that the electric vehicles will offer residents a safer and more convenient transportation option while helping reduce the community’s carbon footprint.
“We hope our experience will encourage other communities to explore innovative ways to improve mobility in their communities,” Cervantes said.
Each electric shuttle can accommodate up to 14 passengers and travel as far as 150 kilometers on a single charge. The units are also equipped with features designed to improve passenger safety and comfort while offering faster charging turnaround and longer driving range.
Movem President and Chief Executive Officer Ralph M. Menchavez said Bel-Air’s adoption of electric shuttles shows that electric mobility is already moving beyond pilot programs and becoming part of daily community life.
“While many are still discussing how electric vehicles can become part of everyday life, Barangay Bel-Air has already taken the lead in integrating them into its service to residents,” Menchavez said.
The partnership will extend beyond the two electric vehicles. Movem will also help address Bel-Air’s charging requirements by providing the infrastructure and support systems needed to sustain the barangay’s transition to electric mobility.
According to Menchavez, the company intends to continue supporting Bel-Air as the community expands its sustainable transport initiatives.
The project forms part of Movem’s strategy to make electric mobility more practical and accessible across the public and private sectors. By working with local communities, government units and organizations, the company is seeking to accelerate electric vehicle adoption and help build a cleaner transportation ecosystem in the Philippines.
For Bel-Air, the rollout provides a glimpse of how the country’s shift toward electric mobility could increasingly happen at the neighborhood level—not only through large transport fleets, but through everyday community services that residents can immediately use.
