Wolfgang frontman Basti Artadi has spoken out on the viral concert moment that sparked online debate, making it clear that what upset him was not politics itself, but the timing and the disrespect shown during a solemn tribute to the band’s late bassist, Mon Legaspi.

In a video posted on Facebook on March 31, Artadi addressed the now widely shared clip from Wolfgang’s show in Davao, where he was seen calling for a disruptive audience member to be removed after the fan repeatedly shouted political remarks. For Artadi, the issue was simple: the outburst happened in the middle of a heartfelt moment meant to honor someone deeply important to the band.

He said he was speaking about Legaspi, who died of cardiac arrest in October 2022, when some people in the crowd chose to inject division into the occasion. Artadi did not mince words, calling the act “bastos” and saying it disrespected not only the band, but also the memory of their fallen brother.

The singer stressed that Wolfgang came to the stage to unite people through music, not to deepen the fractures already amplified online. He lamented how the incident has since been spun into a political issue, saying that those turning the moment into something else are only adding to the hostility and, in effect, dishonoring Legaspi all over again.

Artadi also used the controversy to make a broader point about the climate of public discourse, saying too much of what circulates online is built to make people clash and turn against one another. In contrast, he said ordinary people should be looking out for each other rather than allowing politicians and political noise to dictate every space, including live performances meant for release, enjoyment, and shared experience.

The viral clip showed an audience member shouting profanities about “BBM,” prompting Artadi to respond that the band was not there to engage in that kind of exchange. When the shouting continued, he instructed security to escort the person out, insisting that while people are free to express themselves, the concert floor was not the place to hijack a tribute and derail the show.

The incident has since drawn mixed reactions online, with some defending the fan’s right to speak and others backing Artadi’s call for respect and basic decency during a deeply personal segment of the concert. But for the vocalist, the message remained firm: there is a time and place for everything, and that moment belonged to Mon.

Wolfgang is currently in the midst of its Philippine reunion tour, with the final stop of the concert run set for Cebu on April 19.
