Barretto-Padilla rift deepens as Dennis Padilla declares final goodbye to estranged children

The already fragile relationship between actor Dennis Padilla and his children with former partner Marjorie Barretto appears to have reached a heartbreaking—and dramatic—end, following the highly publicized wedding of their daughter Claudia Barretto.

In a raw and emotionally charged interview with Ogie Diaz, Padilla did not hold back his pain, recounting the sting of being treated like an outsider at Claudia’s big day.

The father of the bride said he was “crushed” to watch his daughter walk down the aisle without him—an experience he described as “one of the most painful moments of [his] life.”

A visitor at my own daughter’s wedding

According to Padilla, he was not part of the wedding ceremony, nor was he given a formal role. He claims that even the wedding coordinator was surprised and admitted that she had tried to bring up his exclusion during the planning stages, only to be told to follow the finalized program.

The situation cut even deeper when Padilla’s 82-year-old mother, who had attended hoping to see her son walk Claudia down the aisle, reportedly broke down in tears upon realizing he wouldn’t be part of that pivotal moment.

“If I weren’t invited at all, I think I would’ve been happier,” Padilla confessed, explaining that the experience left him feeling more like an intruder than a father.

He, along with his brother Gene and their mother, opted not to stay for the reception. Instead, he quietly handed over a wedding gift to the event coordinator and began to leave—until she told him Claudia wanted a photo with him at the altar.

Mixed signals and final words

Padilla further revealed that Claudia had called him hours before the wedding, initially telling him the ceremony would be canceled, only to change her mind shortly after. This left him suspicious, believing it was a maneuver to keep him away without outright uninviting him.

When he requested a formal invitation for himself and his mother, he says Claudia merely sent logistical details via message. “There was no warmth. No effort. No real invitation,” he shared.

After the wedding, Padilla tried to reach out to his other children—Leon and Julia Barretto—to ask what happened, but was met with silence.

This lack of communication and acknowledgment has become a recurring wound for the actor, who painfully admitted that none of his children have ever posted a photo of him on their social media.

“Not a single mention. Not one picture. Not even of my parents who are both celebrities. It’s like I don’t exist,” he said.

A permanent break: “Don’t come near me”

Padilla’s heartbreak has now turned into resignation. “I’m done. I surrender. I’m still their father, but this relationship? It’s gone. Finished,” he declared.

The actor revealed plans to delete all social media posts related to his children and requested that they not try to reconnect. “This is a permanent goodbye. The next time they see me might be in a casket.”

He expressed his intentions to focus solely on his younger children—aged 8 and 12—suggesting he wants to avoid repeating past mistakes.

Behind the Barretto curtain

The tension surrounding the Barretto-Padilla family doesn’t end with the children. Padilla also alleged that Claudia’s celebrity aunts—Gretchen and Claudine Barretto—were deliberately excluded from the wedding guest list.

Given the Barretto family’s long-standing reputation for public feuds, the omission of Claudine and Gretchen only fanned the flames of speculation. Over the years, the Barretto sisters have been embroiled in numerous public disputes—often involving family betrayals, social media shade, and legal threats. Now, it seems the next generation isn’t immune from the bitter legacies left behind.

Padilla’s own image has long been a subject of mixed public opinion—some call him “toxic,” while others see him as a father simply trying, and failing, to reconnect.

Whatever the case may be, the wounds from Claudia’s wedding are unlikely to heal anytime soon, and for now, the once-intertwined Barretto-Padilla bond lies in tatters—splintered by miscommunication, unresolved trauma, and a generational cycle of estrangement.
