COTABATO CITY – Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua on Thursday welcomed the appointment of Chief Justice Rodil V. Zalameda as the Supreme Court’s (SC) 28th Chief Justice.
Malacañang earlier announced that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. chose Zalameda as the new SC Chief Justice to succeed outgoing Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo, who is set to retire on Nov. 6.
In a statement, Macacua also expressed appreciation for outgoing Chief Justice Gesmundo’s years of dedicated service to the judiciary and to the Filipino people.
Macacua said Gesmundo’s contributions to the administration of justice and to the institution he has served deserve our recognition and gratitude.
“To Chief Justice Zalameda, may you carry this great responsibility with wisdom, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to justice. May your leadership further strengthen public trust in our democratic institutions,” Macacua said of the new Chief Justice.
“For the Bangsamoro, an independent and impartial judiciary remains essential to upholding the rule of law, protecting fundamental rights, and ensuring justice is accessible to all, regardless of background or circumstance,” he added. (PNA)
