DAVAO CITY – The Department of Agriculture (DA) – Davao Region has released PHP2.2 million in financial grants to two coconut farmers’ organizations in Davao City to help strengthen and revitalize the region’s coconut industry.
In a statement on Thursday, DA-Davao Region said the assistance was turned over on Nov. 4 under the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP).
The beneficiaries were the Pangyan Coconut Farmers Association in Calinan District and the Green Gold Farmers Agriculture Cooperative in Baguio District, with each organization receiving PHP1.1 million.
The grants will be used to establish coconut nurseries, which serve as dedicated facilities where selected coconut seed nuts are planted, germinated, and nurtured into healthy seedlings before being transplanted to farms or plantations.
“The nursery establishment initiative aims to empower grassroots farmer organizations by enabling them to manage their own agricultural inputs,” the regional agricultural office added.
Through the development of localized nurseries, the agency said, the project is expected to enhance farm productivity, ensure a stable supply of coconut planting materials, strengthen coconut supply chains, and provide sustainable livelihood opportunities for coconut farmers across the Davao Region.
