Bahay Modernismo Museum Offers Insight into Post-War Filipino Life

Filipinos can now explore post-World War II life at the newly opened Bahay Modernismo museum located in Quezon Memorial Circle. This interactive space provides a unique glimpse into the architecture, household items, and cultural shifts that shaped Filipino society after the war.

Quezon City aims to preserve the museum’s essence as part of the city’s identity. Paano tayo bumangon bilang isang bansa?” explained Architect Praise Diokno, senior project manager for QC Museums and Historic Sites. Visitors can interact with various rooms, including a living room featuring vintage television sets that still function, offering a glimpse into mid-20th-century entertainment.

A notable highlight is the spoon and fork model in the dining area, symbolizing a family’s status and wealth during that time. And it’s really an experience.

The museum also delves into the broader socio-political context of the era, showcasing how Quezon City became a beacon of hope for Filipinos rebuilding their lives after the war. With new housing projects and government institutions relocating to the area, the city played a crucial role in the country’s recovery.

Additionally, the Bahay Modernismo museum features elements from the original Aquino bungalow home on Time Street, enhancing its authenticity. Guests can witness how domestic spaces evolved, reflecting the fusion of tradition and modernity that characterized Filipino homes during that period.

Open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the museum welcomes all visitors free of charge, an initiative by the Quezon City government to ensure accessible cultural education for its residents.
