Baguio City Urges Residents to Combat Dengue Threat

The City Health Services Office (CHSO) has once again urged residents to stay vigilant against dengue by actively eliminating mosquito breeding sites in their surroundings.

City Health Officer Dr. Celia Flor Brillantes reminded the public on Wednesday to consistently follow preventive measures, including eliminating stagnant water, seeking early medical consultation, and staying hydrated.

Brillantes referenced Ordinance No. 10-2025, the Consolidated Anti-Mosquito Borne Ordinance, which mandates homeowners, business owners, schools, churches, hospitals, and government and private offices to regularly inspect their premises for potential mosquito breeding areas.

As of June 28, Baguio City has reported 479 dengue cases, with 138 hospitalizations and three deaths. Clusters of cases have been identified in several barangays, including Camp 7, Loakan Proper, Asin Road, Kias, Gibraltar, Fairview, New Lucban, Camp 8, Saint Joseph Village, and Bakakeng Central.

In response, mosquito surveillance has been initiated in these areas, with enforcement teams from barangays, the Baguio City Police Office, Public Order and Safety Division, and CHSO sanitation inspectors tasked with issuing citations for ordinance violations.

Brillantes emphasized that dengue is now a year-round threat, stating, “We hope we don’t reach the point of jailing people for failing to eliminate mosquitoes,” and urged the community to take shared responsibility in dengue prevention.
