A driver of an electric taxi was personally intercepted by Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief Markus Lacanilao after allegedly evading traffic enforcers following a reported case of reckless driving in Quezon City.
The LTO said the incident happened along Panay Avenue on Thursday, where the vehicle reportedly made a sudden lane change without signaling and nearly hit an LTO mobile patrol unit.
Authorities said the driver attempted to flee but was eventually stopped and issued a Temporary Operator’s Permit for reckless driving and disregarding traffic signs.
The agency said a show-cause order was issued requiring the driver to explain his actions and attend a hearing scheduled on May 14, 2026.
He was directed to respond to multiple possible violations, including reckless driving, improper signaling, and operating a vehicle in a manner deemed unsafe.
The vehicle’s registered owner and operator were also ordered to explain possible liability for allowing the driver to operate despite alleged misconduct.
The LTO placed the driver’s license under 90-day preventive suspension while the vehicle was tagged under alarm status pending investigation.
Lacanilao said motorists who violate traffic laws and attempt to evade enforcement would face administrative consequences, stressing that such behavior worsens road safety risks.
