A fire swept through Purok Masanag, Barangay 26 in Bacolod City on Monday morning, leaving 65 residents without shelter.
Authorities reported that nine houses were completely destroyed while three others suffered partial damage.
The Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) said a total of 18 families were affected by the blaze.
Fire Inspector Jemarie Tapiru, deputy city fire marshal, identified electrical arcing as the cause of the fire at the home of Linda Barba.
He explained that arcing happens when electricity jumps across an air gap between conductors, which can ignite nearby materials.
The Bacolod Fire Department assessed initial losses at around P150,000 and confirmed that pre-incident safety measures were in place.
Officials urged residents to inspect electrical wiring and appliances regularly to prevent future fires and safeguard their homes.
