Edison Jordan delivered the go-ahead layup that sealed Adamson University’s thrilling 83-82 overtime upset over defending champion University of the East in the UAAP Season 88 junior basketball tournament Saturday at the Ateneo Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City.
The Baby Falcons snapped a two-game losing streak to rise to 4-2 — already surpassing their three-win total from last season’s campaign.
“For me, it shows their character that yes, we fumble and we falter, but in the end, the guys pick up and fight to win,” said Adamson coach Dante Tongco.
Keefy Iledan spearheaded Adamson’s charge with 19 points, four rebounds, and two assists, while Vengcs Vengco added 13 points and seven boards. Jordan and Fran Flores chipped in 12 points apiece, with Kyle Abas adding 10 markers — including the game-tying free throw that forced overtime — on top of eight rebounds, five blocks, and four steals.
For UE, Goodluck Okebata turned in a monster double-double of 22 points and 21 rebounds alongside five steals, two blocks, and two assists, but the Junior Warriors slipped to 3-2 in the standings.
In the other game, the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs leaned on the all-around brilliance of Miguel Jubilado to turn back Ateneo de Manila, 83-74.
Jubilado posted 27 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists as UST improved to 3-2 for a share of third place. “I’m happy, especially with what they showed in the fourth quarter. That stretch was crucial, and they delivered when it mattered most,” said UST coach Noli Mejos.
Rowie Cabañero recorded a double-double of 14 points and 11 assists, while Gab Castro also scored 14 points with 10 rebounds. Dave Regala contributed eight points and 13 boards.
For Ateneo, Sky Jazul fired 21 points with six rebounds and three steals, while Divinagracia added 15 points, five boards, five assists, and three steals, as the Blue Eagles fell to 2-4.
