The African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) said it remains committed to eradicating al-Shabaab insurgents and restoring stability in the country.

AUSSOM Force Commander Sam Kavuma visited frontline troops to assess their readiness after the recent liberation of the strategic towns of Mubarak and Durasalaam.

“Through sweat, struggle, and sacrifice, we stand united to eliminate al-Shabaab and secure a future for our brothers and sisters in Somalia,” Kavuma said in a statement Friday evening.

He urged the Ugandan troops under AUSSOM and the Somali National Armed Forces to maintain high levels of professionalism, morale, and discipline in carrying out their duties.

Kavuma added that AUSSOM, in coordination with the Somali government and other partners, will provide vital support to communities in the newly liberated areas.

The joint operation on Monday, conducted with international partners, successfully captured two towns that had long served as strongholds for al-Shabaab militants.

Owiny Akena, commander of Battle Group 44 and the operation leader, confirmed that Mubarak and Durasalaam are now fully under the control of the allied forces.

He said continued vigilance and cooperation among the joint forces are crucial to ensuring lasting security and stability in the region.
