The tandem of Alexandra “Alex” Eala and American Iva Jovic bowed out early from the doubles tournament of the Indian Wells Open after falling to the pair of American Hailey Baptiste and Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, 6-2, 6-2, in the Round of 32 on Sunday.

“Baptiste and Ostapenko controlled the match from the start and needed just an hour to secure the straight-sets victory,” the report said.

The American–Latvian duo also surged to an early 4-1 lead in the second set before Eala and Jovic managed to claim another game.

“Baptiste and Ostapenko quickly regained control, winning the next two games to close out the match,” it added.

The loss ends Jovic’s campaign in Indian Wells after she also bowed out in singles earlier following a defeat to Camila Osorio.

Eala, however, remains in contention in the singles draw.

“She will return to action on Monday for a Round of 32 showdown against Coco Gauff,” the tournament confirmed.

The defeat concludes Eala and Jovic’s doubles run but keeps Eala alive in the singles bracket.
