AUB witness: Sara Duterte not holder of Carpio bank accounts

MANILA – An Asia United Bank (AUB) official confirmed Wednesday that Vice President Sara Duterte was not an account holder of two bank accounts presented before the Senate impeachment court under the name of her husband, Atty. Mans Carpio.

During questioning, AUB Davao Toril Branch Manager Arcy James Gonzales was asked whether both accounts carried Carpio’s name.

“Both accounts have the names of Manases Carpio, po,” Gonzales replied.

Asked specifically whether Duterte was a holder of either account, Gonzales answered: “That’s correct, po,” confirming she was not.

Gonzales also testified that his knowledge of the transactions and amounts involving the accounts was based solely on documents in the bank’s records.

He acknowledged that he did not know why the transactions were made or the underlying contracts or agreements behind them.

The witness also agreed when asked whether the transactions had been allowed by the bank and whether, at the time they were made, the bank had not seen anything wrong with them.

Gonzales gave the testimony during Day 35 of Duterte’s impeachment trial, as the Senate impeachment court continued examining financial records presented in connection with the proceedings.
