Two powerful films before June ends!
Don’t miss out on the short documentary film Ate Bunso and the movie film Balota this June 26, at 6 PM, at the Philippine High School for the Arts in Mt. Makiling, Los Baños.
CCP Lakbay Sine will hold the screening of these two powerful films, and to make it even better, the film screenings are free!
Ate Bunso (2022) is a 2023 Gawad Alternatibo awardee and a nominee for Best Short Film at the 45th Gawad Urian Awards, directed by Angelica Llanera. The story follows the filmmaker’s story. It tells her family’s experience of raising their Down Syndrome family member, Daniel—her eldest brother—and how, ever since, Angelica has taken up the role of being an “Ate” (older sister) to her oldest brother. This film showcased the tension between the innocence and responsibility of a young girl, highlighting the weight of reality.
Balota (2024) is an award-winning Cinemalaya film written and directed by Kip Oebanda. Starring Marian Rivera as Emmy, a teacher who was assigned to the Board of Election Inspectors for her local precinct during the 2007 elections. The film depicted the corrupt, bloody, and violent aspects of elections, where power is the primary concern, and how individuals can go to great lengths to protect and defend the democratic process.
Additionally, Angelica Llanera, the director of Ate Bunso, will join the event for a talkback session.
Be sure not to miss this opportunity to watch, listen, and reflect on what these two movies reveal and convey.
