MANILA – Assistant Secretary RJ Nieto, popularly known as Thinking Pinoy, has issued a firm warning against individuals seeking personal favors or endorsements for government appointments following his appointment to public office.
In a statement dated October 23, 2026, Nieto emphasized that his new position should not be viewed as an opportunity for others to use his influence or connections to secure government posts.
“Let me be very clear: My appointment is not an invitation to ask for favors, and I will not use my position or connections to facilitate anyone else’s appointment. Please respect that boundary and stop putting me in that position,” Nieto said.
The assistant secretary stressed that his appointment does not give individuals the right to approach him for preferential treatment in government hiring.
Nieto also made it clear that he does not automatically recommend even his own relatives for government positions.
He previously remarked that he would only consider discussing a possible endorsement if an applicant could demonstrate being more intelligent than him.
His statement underscores his refusal to entertain requests that would involve using his government position or personal connections to facilitate appointments.
Nieto urged individuals to respect his boundaries and refrain from placing him in situations where he is expected to intervene in government appointments.
