ASEAN member states may now voluntarily implement the upgraded ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement ahead of its official entry into force on June 1, 2027.
The governments of the 10 member nations—including the Philippines, Brunei, Singapore, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Myanmar—issued a joint declaration allowing the provisional application of the Second Protocol to Amend ATIGA on a voluntary and reciprocal basis among prepared countries.
Adopted on the sidelines of the 58th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting in Pasay City, the declaration specifies that provisional implementation will apply between notifying states until the official June 2027 start date. Signed during the 47th ASEAN Summit in Malaysia, the upgraded agreement aims to boost regional commerce by introducing expedited cargo clearance for certified traders, simplified self-declaration rules of origin, and expanded acceptance of digital documentation.
