QUEZON CITY, Philippines — A total of 1,339 families in Quezon City are a step closer to securing their homes after the local government formalized the purchase of eight parcels of land covering more than 57,858 square meters across six barangays.
Mayor Joy Belmonte signed the Deeds of Sale with property owners as part of the city’s Direct Sale Program, an initiative aimed at providing long-term housing security to residents who have spent decades seeking certainty over their living arrangements.
The properties are located in Barangays Payatas, Batasan Hills, Bagong Silangan, Commonwealth, Old Balara and Bagbag.
According to the Quezon City Government, the agreements mark a significant development for the beneficiary families, many of whom have long hoped to secure permanent housing within the city.
Joining Belmonte during the signing were Committee on Urban Development and Human Settlement Chairperson Vincent Belmonte, Committee on Subdivisions, Housing and Real Estate Chairperson Luigi Pumaren, barangay officials and the participating landowners.
The land acquisition forms part of the Direct Sale Program implemented by the Housing, Community Development and Resettlement Department (HCDRD).
Through the program, the local government facilitates land acquisition arrangements intended to provide qualified residents with opportunities to secure their housing tenure.
Belmonte emphasized the importance of the initiative in addressing the long-standing housing concerns of Quezon City residents, particularly families seeking stability and protection from displacement.
The city government said the program supports its broader efforts to improve access to secure and sustainable housing for communities facing uncertainty over land ownership and occupancy.
The signing of the Deeds of Sale represents a major step toward resolving housing concerns in the six barangays, although the announcement did not specify when individual ownership documents would be issued to beneficiaries.
For the 1,339 families covered by the agreements, the development brings renewed hope of achieving long-term residential security in Quezon City.
