The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) turned over Php 10 million worth of sports equipment to local governments and schools in Antique to support grassroots sports programs across the province.
The equipment was distributed to 18 local government units and seven schools during a ceremony at the Binirayan Sports Complex in San Jose de Buenavista on Thursday.
The package included gear for basketball, volleyball, table tennis and boxing.
PSC Commissioner Matthew “Fritz” Gaston said the equipment would support athletes participating in intertown activities and help strengthen local training programs.
The assistance is expected to complement the Antique Athletic League, an intertown sports program launched in 2022 to prepare local athletes for regional and national competitions.
Rep. Antonio Agapito Legarda welcomed the support and expressed hope that it would encourage athletes to improve their performance.
Antique Gov. Paolo Everardo Javier said sports programs could help develop athletes both physically and mentally.
League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Antique chapter Vice President Aser Baladjay said the equipment would give athletes in different towns more resources for training and tournaments.
Local officials said the turnover would help expand access to sports activities and strengthen athlete development at the community level.
