Alibaba has unveiled a major upgrade to its flagship consumer AI platform, the Qwen App, signaling a decisive shift in how artificial intelligence fits into everyday life. With the update, Alibaba moves beyond AI that merely responds to queries, introducing an agentic system designed to carry out real-world tasks seamlessly across the company’s vast digital ecosystem.
At the core of the upgrade is Qwen App’s deep integration with key Alibaba services, including Taobao, Taobao Instant Commerce, Alipay, Fliggy, and Amap.
Rather than acting as a standalone chatbot, Qwen App now serves as a unified interface that intelligently coordinates these platforms, allowing users to move directly from intent to execution without jumping between apps or manually navigating complex workflows.
The new features, which are now available for public testing in China, transform Qwen App into an autonomous, end-to-end task executor. Through a single voice or text prompt, users can order meals, complete payments within the chat, plan and book trips, call restaurants, and manage multi-step activities—all handled within one continuous interaction.
According to Wu Jia, vice president of Alibaba Group, the upgrade reflects a broader evolution in artificial intelligence. “AI is evolving from intelligence to agency,” Wu said, describing the transition from systems that understand user requests to systems that can act on them through direct connections to real-world services.
He added that Qwen App represents Alibaba’s vision for the next generation of AI applications—tools that are not only powerful, but genuinely useful in daily life. By making these capabilities freely available, the company aims to help users offload repetitive tasks to an assistant they can trust.
The first wave of agentic features focuses on areas where users already have clear habits and expectations, particularly in local services, shopping, and travel. In the fast-growing quick commerce space, for instance, Qwen App can place real-time food and beverage orders via Taobao Instant Commerce, automatically apply available promotions, and complete payment within the same conversation—eliminating friction at every step.
With this upgrade, Alibaba positions Qwen App not just as another AI interface, but as a practical digital agent embedded in daily routines, marking a significant step toward AI systems that do more than talk—and instead, get things done.
