Alex Eala advanced to the semifinals of the Guadalajara 125 Open after winning two matches in one day. She defeated Italy’s Nicole Fossa Huergo 7-6(2), 6-2 in the quarterfinals early Friday (Manila time).
Eala overcame a 1-4 deficit in the first set, winning five of the next six games to take a 6-5 lead. She then secured the tiebreak to claim the set. In the second set, the World No. 75 broke a 2-all tie and won three straight games to seal the victory.
Earlier, Eala resumed her rain-delayed second-round match against American Varvara Lepchenko, winning 6(3)-7(7), 7(7)-6(3), 6-3. She held a 3-2 lead in the deciding set before the match was suspended and finished it Friday to reach the quarters.
Eala will face US player Kayla Day in the semifinals. Day advanced by defeating Colombia’s Emiliana Arango. Their match is scheduled for 2:10 a.m. Saturday (Manila time).
