Alex Eala’s campaign at the Japan Women’s Open came to a close Tuesday after a tough 6-1, 6-2 loss to Czech qualifier Tereza Valentova in the Round of 32 in Osaka.

Valentova, ranked World No. 78, displayed sharp form in the one-hour, 29-minute match. The 18-year-old Czech had come through the qualifiers—defeating Alina Charaeva and Greet Minnen—before taking down Eala, who currently holds a career-best World No. 54 ranking.

The 20-year-old Filipina star, fresh off her runs in the Jingshan and Suzhou Opens in China, where she reached the semifinals and quarterfinals respectively, will next head back to China for the Guangzhou Open as she continues her Asia swing.

Despite the back-to-back early exits in Wuhan and Osaka, Eala’s growth on the world stage remains evident. Each match—win or loss—adds another chapter to her journey as one of the Philippines’ most promising tennis talents.

To all her fans, let’s keep rallying behind Alex as she proudly carries our flag across the global tennis courts. Thank you, Alex, for representing the Philippines with grit, grace, and unwavering heart. Mabuhay ka! 🇵🇭🎾
