LEGAZPI CITY — The provincial government of Albay ordered the suspension of in-person classes and shifted to alternative learning modes as a transport strike continued to affect mobility, officials said Thursday.

The directive, issued through an advisory signed by Acting Governor Farida Co on Wednesday, covered all levels in both public and private schools across the province.

Local government units were instructed to activate available resources to assist commuters who may be stranded or face difficulty traveling due to limited public transport.

Provincial disaster response units were placed on alert and directed to closely monitor developments related to the strike and its impact on communities.

Authorities also coordinated with agencies such as the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Office of Civil Defense, and Philippine National Police to secure logistical support, including vehicles that could be deployed if needed.

Several cities and municipalities in Albay issued their own class suspension notices ahead of the disruption, citing anticipated transport shortages.

In Legazpi City, Mayor Hisham Ismail said government vehicles, including those from the Bureau of Fire Protection, were being prepared for possible use in providing free rides to affected commuters.

The provincial disaster council advised residents to stay informed on updates regarding transportation options and contingency measures while the strike remains ongoing.
