
An Air India flight en route to London reportedly crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad early Thursday morning.
The airline confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that Flight AI171 “was involved in an incident.” According to data from Flightradar24, the Boeing 787 climbed to an altitude of just 625 feet before its tracking signal abruptly stopped.
Images circulating on social media show dense black smoke billowing into the sky near the airport runway, fueling concern among observers.
In a brief statement, Air India said it is “ascertaining the details” and promised to release more information as it becomes available.
Reuters reported that local police believe the aircraft went down in a residential neighborhood near the airport. Emergency services are reportedly on the scene.
