COPENHAGEN, Denmark — While aboard Air Force One en route back to Washington, United States president Donald Trump doubled down on his claim that Greenland should become part of the United States.
Trump conducted a press briefing aboard the presidential plane, telling the media regarding his plans to annex the world’s largest island, despite calls by Denmark’s prime minister Mette Frederiksen to stop “threatening” the territory.
Washington’s recent military intervention in Venezuela has reignited fears for Greenland, which Trump has repeatedly said he wants to get it “one way or the other.”
Given the island’s strategic location in the Arctic. the US president cited: “We need Greenland from the standpoint of national security and Denmark is not going to be able to do it.”
Over the weekend, Katie Miller, the wife of Trump’s most influential aide, posted an image of the flag of Greenland in the colours of the US flag, captioning it ‘SOON’.
