The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to upholding the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), aligning with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s strong stance on national security.

AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. emphasized that the military fully supports the President’s directive to defend the nation’s maritime territory against external threats.

“From day one, the President has made it unequivocally clear that we will not surrender a single inch of our territory to any foreign power. The AFP fully embraces this commitment and remains resolute in defending our sovereign rights in the WPS,” Brawner stated.

Brawner strongly condemned the illegal, coercive, and aggressive actions of the China Coast Guard (CCG) and the People’s Liberation Army-Navy (PLAN) in Philippine waters.

These acts include:

  • Harassment of Philippine vessels through dangerous maneuvers
  • Interference with Filipino fishermen’s livelihood
  • Persistent violations of international maritime laws

“These reckless actions violate international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the 2016 Arbitral Award, while also infringing on Philippine domestic laws,” he added.

Brawner stressed that China’s continued provocations endanger regional stability and undermine the principles of a rules-based international order.

In response, the AFP is intensifying efforts to fortify national defense, including:

✅ Enhancing self-reliant defense capabilities

✅ Strengthening security partnerships with like-minded nations

✅ Coordinating closely with the Philippine Coast Guard and other maritime agencies

“With the unwavering support of President Marcos, the AFP is committed to strengthening our defense posture to protect our national interests and ensure peace and stability in our maritime domain,” Brawner concluded.
