Ada triggers rockslide, kills 2 in Sorsogon

Two people were killed early Saturday after a rockslide, triggered by heavy rains from Tropical Storm Ada, crushed a residential structure in Sorsogon province.

The victims, identified as a 23-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, were reportedly asleep when the incident occurred.

According to Sorsogon provincial administrator Eric Ravanilla, the collapsing structure buried the victims instantly.

The tragedy comes as Tropical Storm Ada continues to batter the Bicol Region with intense rainfall.

While the rockslide claimed two lives, Ravanilla noted in a Viber message to reporters that no major flooding has been reported in other parts of the province so far.

Local disaster risk reduction and management offices remain on high alert as the storm maintains its strength.

Earlier this week, the Philippine Coast Guard had already suspended sea travel across Sorsogon as a preemptive safety measure, while

storm signals remain hoisted over several areas in Luzon.

Recovery operations were conducted by local emergency responders following the slide.

Authorities continue to monitor high-risk areas for further geological hazards as the weather system moves through the region.
