Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc. (AIC), the infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz Group, has rolled out a fresh wave of critical improvements at Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA) and Laguindingan International Airport (LIA), two of the busiest gateways in the country. The upgrades are designed to strengthen day-to-day reliability, improve passenger flow, and ensure a safer, more seamless airport experience.
Working closely with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), AIC Airports has undertaken key maintenance initiatives since assuming operations of BPIA and LIA in mid-2025. Among the completed improvements are:
• Repairs on elevators to provide smoother access for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and families with young children
• Comprehensive assessments of the airports’ uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems to maintain operations even during power disruptions
• Servicing of baggage carousels to speed up baggage claiming and minimize waiting times
Additional preventive maintenance has also been completed at BPIA, covering passenger boarding bridges and baggage weighing scales for enhanced safety and convenience.

“These improvements are important infrastructure upkeep that reflect our shared commitment with the government to make every AIC Airports experience safer, more efficient, and more enjoyable for our travelers,” said AIC President and CEO Cosette V. Canilao. “We are ensuring that BPIA and LIA remain reliable gateways that connect communities, boost local economies, and strengthen our country’s aviation network.”
The upgrades are among the earliest outcomes of the DOTr and CAAP’s strengthened public-private partnership push for provincial airport modernization—an approach proving that collaboration accelerates delivery of better airport services for travelers, staff, and host communities.
AIC Airports is currently building a nationwide network of modernized, world-class gateways projected to serve around 16 million passengers by year-end, accounting for over 20% of national passenger traffic. Within this network:
• Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) will serve as the Connectivity Hub
• BPIA will operate as the country’s Leisure Hub, providing access to the UNESCO Global Geopark
• LIA will function as the Service Hub for business and logistics into Mindanao
Starting 2025, AIC will roll out more modernization programs across BPIA and LIA, including terminal restructuring, capacity expansion, and infrastructure enhancements aligned with the transformation blueprint set under the multi-year concession agreements awarded in 2024. These upgrades are modeled after the successful evolution of MCIA, recognized as one of the country’s most awarded and globally competitive airports.
