A landing craft tank (LCT) drifted and slammed into the seawall of Caubian Island, Lapu-Lapu City early November 10, 2025, as Super Typhoon Uwan battered parts of Southern Luzon.
Barangay Councilwoman Kathy Meyers said she was awakened at 3 a.m. by her nephew, who saw the vessel crash near their home. Upon checking, Meyers identified it as the LCT Golden Star 7, the same vessel that ran aground in 2021 during Super Typhoon Odette between Nasingin and Pandanon Islands in Bohol, where it had remained since.
Driven by Uwan’s strong winds and storm surges, the ship drifted toward Caubian Island. Meyers said it was fortunate that the LCT did not destroy nearby motorbancas or fish pens in Sitio Kasadpan.
While no coral damage or oil spill was reported, the seawall sustained significant damage from the impact. The Cebu Coast Guard inspected the site and confirmed the vessel posed no immediate environmental risk.
However, Meyers expressed concern over the ship’s presence, noting that no crew or skipper is aboard to monitor it amid continued rough seas and strong winds.
