Former Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos stands united with President Ferdinand ‘’Bongbong’’ Marcos Jr. who, in response to the threats made by Vice President Sara Duterte, said that he would not tolerate ‘criminal threats’ against him and that the rule of law must be upheld
‘’Sang-ayon tayo sa mga binitawang pahayag ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos ukol sa mga naging pagbabanta ni Vice President Sara Duterte,’’ Abalos said in a press release. (I agree with the statements of the President Marcos on the threats of Vice President Sara Duterte.)
Abalos, a lawyer, said Duterte’s ‘’active threat’’ should not be ignored as he sees it as inappropriate and unbecoming of the post she is holding.
’As a lawyer, I believe that she could face legal consequences for her remarks and actions. Maaari itong maging grounds ng kanyang disbarment. We will let the concerned authorities and law enforcement agencies determine the sanctions that could be imposed against the Vice President,’’ Abalos said.(These could be grounds for her disbarment.)
Marcos earlier vowed to block “criminal attempts” following Duterte’s remark that she would have him, First Lady Louise ‘’Liza’’ Araneta-Marcos and Speaker Martin Romualdez killed if she herself would be assassinated.
The President also said he respects the independence of the legislative branch of the government, particularly its authority and mandate to conduct investigations on certain issues
Meanwhile, Abalos is one with the call of Marcos to continue working for the betterment of the country.
‘’Kaisa tayo sa panawagan na magpokus na lamang sa mga mas mahahalagang isyu ng bansa kaysa pagtuunan ang pamumulitika. Our kababayans have more pressing concerns that need to be addressed,’’ Abalos said. (We are one with the call to focus on more important national issues rather than politics.)
Earlier, the National Bureau of Investigation said a subpoena would be issued against Duterte so she could explain her recent remarks against the President, a matter which authorities believed could be a ground for her disbarment.
Abalos also urged authorities should immediately find out who the contracted assassin is in the alleged kill plot being hatched by the Vice President.
Abalos emphasized the gravity of the situation as he urged authorities to act swiftly to uncover the truth behind the disturbing claim, which he said could undermine the stability of the nation’s leadership and public trust in government institutions.
As the investigation unfolds, Abalos remains adamant that all relevant information should be disclosed to the public and those responsible for any illicit plot be held accountable.
“Walang lugar sa demokratikong bansa ang mga ganitong uri ng pagbabanta. Let us ensure that the rule of law prevails, and that those who seek to harm our leaders or our democracy face the full force of the law,” he said. (Such threats do not have a place in a democratic nation.)
