DAVAO CITY – The Department of Agriculture (DA) 11 (Davao Region) distributed more than PHP3.9 million worth of hybrid rice seed interventions to the municipality of Banaybanay in Davao Oriental on Tuesday.
The municipality received 787 bags of hybrid rice seeds, covering 787 hectares and benefiting local rice farmers.
“To help boost rice productivity for the upcoming cropping season, DA-11 through its Rice Program, continues its hybrid seed and fertilizer distribution caravan in Davao Oriental,” the agency said in a statement on Wednesday.
Inbred rice farmers in the town also received 1,156 packs of inorganic foliar fertilizer, with each 300-gram pack intended to cover one hectare of rice area.
Distribution activities were carried out in close coordination with the city and municipal agriculture offices in the province to ensure timely assistance to farmer beneficiaries.
DA-11 is set to conduct the next distribution activity on May 28, catering to rice farmers from the municipalities of Lupon and Governor Generoso.
Last week, more than PHP23 million worth of hybrid rice seed interventions were distributed to three municipalities in Davao del Norte—Asuncion, Braulio E. Dujali, and Tagum City.
The distribution is part of DA-11’s ongoing efforts to strengthen rice production and support farmers ahead of the wet cropping season. (PNA)
