Fifty-eight Filipinos living in the fire-ravaged Tai Po high-rise complex in Hong Kong have been confirmed safe, the Philippine Consulate General reported Friday, offering a measure of relief amid the city’s deadliest blaze in decades.
The latest advisory noted that one Filipino domestic worker remains unaccounted for, while another is currently confined in a hospital. Consular teams are actively coordinating with Hong Kong authorities to track developments and extend assistance.
The consulate is likewise verifying the status of 91 other Filipinos previously registered at Wang Fuk Court. Many may have changed employers, moved residences, or even returned to the Philippines prior to the tragedy, prompting officials to widen the verification effort.
Authorities urged anyone with information on affected workers to contact the Consulate General’s hotlines: 9155 4023 (Consular Assistance), 5529 1880 (Migrant Workers Office), or 6345 9324 (OWWA).
The blaze, which erupted Wednesday in one tower of the Wang Kuk residential estate in Tai Po District, rapidly engulfed six more buildings. It has so far claimed 129 lives and left around 200 others missing, making it one of Hong Kong’s most devastating urban fires in recent memory.
