The Department of Health (DOH) reported Monday that five people have died in road traffic incidents since the start of the Christmas holiday season, with motorcycles involved in three of the fatalities.
The DOH’s latest data revealed 39 new accidents, bringing the total number of road incidents to 457 since December 22. Motorcycles were involved in the majority, accounting for 322 of the recorded accidents.
Additionally, the department noted that 393 people involved in crashes were not wearing safety gear, while 76 of the incidents involved individuals under the influence of alcohol.
The DOH is urging the public to take key safety precautions to prevent further accidents: wear helmets on motorcycles and seat belts in vehicles, avoid driving while intoxicated, obey speed limits and road signs, and ensure drivers get sufficient rest before traveling.
In the event of an accident, motorists are advised to call the 911 emergency hotline or the DOH’s emergency line at 1555.
