Two weather systems are expected to bring rainfall to various parts of the country on Wednesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported.
The weather bureau stated that the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), which is affecting southern Mindanao, will cause scattered rains and thunderstorms across Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” will bring rains to areas in Northern Luzon, specifically Cagayan Valley, Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Kalinga, and Aurora. PAGASA warned that residents in these affected areas should be vigilant as moderate to heavy rains could lead to flash floods or landslides.
The amihan is also expected to cause isolated light rains in the rest of the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Central Luzon, while the rest of the country will experience isolated rain showers from localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA is also monitoring a Low-Pressure Area (LPA) currently outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). The LPA, located 1,210 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon as of 2 a.m., has a high potential to develop into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours. If it enters the PAR as a cyclone, it will be named “Wilma.”
