BUTUAN CITY – A total of 100 barangays in Dinagat Islands will receive Php 20 million in financial assistance from the Office of the President (OP) to support educational scholarships and priority community development projects.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Dinagat Islands formally launched the “Bawat Barangay Makikinabang” Program on Monday, providing Php 200,000 to each barangay.

Funded through the Office of the President’s Socio-Civic Projects Fund, the assistance allocates Php 100,000 for scholarships for deserving students and another Php 100,000 for community development initiatives.

Dinagat Islands Governor Nilo Demerey Jr., DILG officials, and barangay captains from the province’s 100 villages attended the program’s launch and turnover ceremony.

According to DILG Dinagat, the initiative aims to strengthen grassroots governance, empower local officials, and improve access to essential services in communities.

The funding for barangay development projects may be used to purchase public service equipment, acquire disaster risk reduction tools, and improve community infrastructure.

“This remarkable program reflects the President’s unwavering commitment to strengthening grassroots governance, empowering local leaders, and uplifting the lives of ordinary Filipinos right down to the community level,” DILG Dinagat said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Demerey expressed gratitude to the Office of the President for extending financial support to all barangays in the province.

“This funding will directly benefit our barangays by opening more opportunities for deserving students while helping communities address their priority development needs,” Demerey said.

He added that the assistance would strengthen the capacity of local communities to implement essential projects and improve public service delivery.

“We are grateful to the Office of the President for ensuring that every barangay in Dinagat Islands benefits from this initiative,” the governor said.

The program seeks to expand educational opportunities while providing barangays with additional resources to address local development priorities.
