The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has officially released an ₱81.3 million insurance claim to the Manila city government following the 2023 fire that struck the New Pritil Public Market.
The insurance payout, amounting to ₱81,342,580.52, was formally turned over during the city’s regular flag-raising ceremony on January 12. The check was personally received by Manila Mayor Francisco Isko Moreno Domagoso from GSIS President and General Manager Jose Arnulfo Veloso.
The claim covers damages sustained by the New Pritil Public Market after a major fire incident in 2023, which disrupted livelihoods and commercial activity in the area.
City officials said the release of the insurance proceeds marks a crucial step toward the rehabilitation and recovery of the affected public market, reinforcing the importance of insuring government assets against disasters.
The Government Service Insurance System reiterated its commitment to supporting government institutions by ensuring timely insurance protection and financial assistance in times of unforeseen calamities.
The turnover underscores continued coordination between GSIS and the City Government of Manila as the city works to restore vital public infrastructure and services for its constituents.
