YouTube Shopping sparks new wave of lifestyle commerce in the Philippines

Google Vice President for Southeast Asia and South Asia Frontier Sapna Chadha showcases the remarkable growth of YouTube Shopping in the Philippines.

In the Philippines, shopping is no longer confined to malls or late-night TV home shopping sprees. It’s happening right where Filipinos spend most of their screen time—on YouTube. Since its debut in April 2025, YouTube Shopping, powered by a partnership with Shopee, has been reshaping the way Filipinos discover, connect with, and buy the things they love.

Even before launch, the signs were clear: between February 2024 and February 2025, shopping-related watch time on YouTube grew by over 70%. Filipinos weren’t just looking to be entertained—they wanted inspiration, recommendations, and a trusted voice to guide their purchases. YouTube saw the wave coming, and it dove right in.

And the results? In just two months, one in five eligible creators in the Philippines had already signed up for the affiliate program, turning product reviews, lifestyle vlogs, and beauty tutorials into thriving business ventures. That momentum places the country as one of the most dynamic YouTube Shopping markets worldwide, showcasing how culture and commerce are now deeply intertwined.

Where culture meets commerce
YouTube is already the cultural heartbeat of the Philippines. It’s where fans rewatch Pinoy Big Brother highlights, catch the latest drama from Batang Quiapo, and relive buzzer-beater moments from the PBA. With over 93% of the country’s online population aged 18+ tuned in, the platform is more than just entertainment—it’s an everyday ritual.

What makes YouTube Shopping powerful is the trust factor. According to Ipsos, Filipino online users are 98% more likely to believe recommendations from YouTube creators than from any other social platform. That credibility turns videos into more than just content; they become lifestyle guides, sparking everything from beauty buys to kitchen upgrades.

“YouTube creators are today’s tastemakers,” said Sapna Chadha, Vice President of Southeast Asia and South Asia Frontier at Google. “They’re driving culture, community, and now commerce. With YouTube Shopping, we’re building the next growth path for them—giving them multiple ways to thrive while helping audiences shop smarter and brands connect more deeply.”

Shopping, reimagined
The platform has rolled out features designed with creators in mind: Stickers on Shorts for easy product tagging, Timestamps to spotlight items exactly when they appear on screen, and even a Chrome Extension that lets creators save Shopee products for later use.

For creators like Kristian PH, these tools have been game-changers. What used to be simple reviews are now interactive experiences where viewers can click, shop, and buy without leaving the video. For him, YouTube Shopping isn’t just an add-on—it’s a livelihood.

The numbers back it up: more than 550,000 products have already been tagged across over 240,000 videos. Each tag is a bridge between creators, brands, and the audiences who trust them.

Jack Ng, Head of Commercial at Shopee Philippines, calls the partnership a natural fit: “Filipinos already look to YouTube for inspiration. Now, we’re bringing them a way to shop directly from the content they love. It’s seamless, it’s authentic, and it’s just the beginning.”

The future of Filipino shopping is here
From unboxing videos that double as storefronts to vlogs that seamlessly weave in product links, YouTube Shopping is carving out a new space where lifestyle, entertainment, and commerce coexist. It’s no longer about passively watching; it’s about participating—shopping in the same space where culture unfolds.

As YouTube continues to evolve its tools and creators grow their influence, the Philippines is emerging as a testbed for how video-driven commerce can redefine the way we live, shop, and connect.

Because in today’s digital-first lifestyle, one click might just take you from a favorite vlogger’s channel to your next favorite find.
