LEGAZPI CITY – The Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5) has started engaging the youth sector in various provinces across the region and encouraging them to become advocates for peace.

In an interview on Wednesday, PRO-5 Director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon said the initiative is part of the Kabataan Kontra Kriminalidad (KKK) program to involve young people, including members of the Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo (KKDAT), out-of-school youth, Muslim youth, and indigenous peoples (IP) youth, in crime prevention efforts.

“It aims to foster a sense of responsibility, awareness, and partnership between law enforcement and the youth,” Dizon said.

He added that through active participation, the KKK program encourages young people to take part in community safety initiatives, cultivate values of leadership and responsibility, and strengthen police-community relationships.

Dizon said youth participants will be involved in seminars, trainings, and outreach activities, as well as participate in community programs for crime prevention.

Following the launch in Sorsogon on Feb. 1, additional events are scheduled for Camarines Norte on Feb. 7, Masbate on Feb. 15, Catanduanes on Feb. 22, Albay on Feb. 27, and Camarines Sur on Feb. 28.

“This expansion aims to reach more young individuals, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and resources to actively contribute to crime prevention and community safety,” he said

Dizon added that by addressing the root causes of crime and equipping young individuals with the necessary tools to make a difference, “the program empowers them to become agents of positive change in their communities.”

He said PRO-5 reaffirms its commitment to engaging and empowering the youth as “Guardians of Peace.”

“By instilling a strong sense of responsibility and community ownership, the KKK program paves the way for a future where young individuals play a vital role in crime prevention and in fostering a safer, more peaceful society,” Dizon added. (PNA)
