Warsaw unveils $24B investment in bid to host 2040 Summer Olympics

Poland has officially launched its ambitious campaign to secure the hosting rights for the 2040 Summer Olympic Games, unveiling a comprehensive national plan backed by a massive estimated investment of $24 billion.

The bid is anchored by the newly announced “Warsaw 2040 Sports Development Strategy,” a program aimed at overhauling the nation’s athletic ecosystem.

The expected 100 billion Polish zloty (approximately $24 billion) is slated for upgrading national sports infrastructure, along with non-facility investments, including the hiring of 1,500 new coaches and the introduction of a new four-year funding model for sports associations.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk called the prospect of hosting the Olympic Games a “realistic goal,” referencing the country’s previous success in co-hosting the UEFA Euro 2012 football championship as evidence of its capacity to manage a major international event.

Although the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has not yet formally opened the bidding process for the 2040 Games, Poland is moving forward with an aggressive timeline, planning to submit its application by early 2026.

The announcement positions Poland as one of the first potential candidates to publicly commit to a bid for the quadrennial global sporting showcase. (Anadolu)
