The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it had found no verified threat against Vice President Sara Duterte or her family, pushing back against concerns she raised after appearing in court to post bail in a grave threats case.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said Duterte had not formally reported to police any specific threat to her life or to members of her family, including those she said dated back to 2023.
The police chief said monitoring was continuing, but stressed that no threat had so far been validated. He added that the PNP remained willing to receive documents, statements or other information from Duterte’s camp for assessment.
Duterte raised the issue Saturday after appearing at the Quezon City Hall of Justice, where she posted bail following the issuance of an arrest warrant for three counts of grave threats.
The Vice President said she had documented harassment and threats over the past several years and expressed concern for the safety of her children. She also said she did not feel secure and questioned her trust in both the police and the courts.
The PNP said security personnel were deployed during her court appearance and that she was able to enter and leave the premises without incident.
Duterte posted Php 120,000 bail for each count. Her lawyers maintained that doing so did not mean abandoning their challenge to the court’s jurisdiction.
The case arose from Duterte’s November 2024 remarks involving President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos and then-House Speaker Martin Romualdez. The court later found probable cause to proceed with the charges.
Nartatez said the PNP would act on any credible threat information submitted by Duterte’s camp while reminding police personnel to observe proper procedures and carry out their duties professionally.
