The Visayas grid will be placed under a yellow alert for two hours on Thursday due to tight power supply, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.
NGCP said the alert will be in effect from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
A yellow alert is issued when the grid’s operating margin falls below the level required to meet contingency reserve requirements.
As of 8 a.m., the Visayas grid had an available capacity of 2,505 megawatts against a projected peak demand of 2,290 MW.
NGCP said supply was affected by the continued unavailability of Unit 1 of Therma Visayas Inc. and Unit 3 of Panay Energy Development Corp.
The grid operator also reported that 12 power plants are currently on forced outage this month, while several others have remained unavailable for longer periods. Fourteen plants are also operating at reduced capacity.
The total unavailable capacity in the Visayas grid was estimated at 820.6 MW.
