Visa Philippines announced plans to expand its tap-to-pay service to the Light Rail Transit Lines 1 and 2 (LRT-1, LRT-2) by year-end and to Philippine Seven Corp. stores nationwide by next year. The initiative will allow commuters and shoppers to pay with Visa debit and credit cards at turnstiles and store counters.
“So we work with RCBC on this one, so we’re helping lead, enable it with them, and yes, the indications that we also got it by the end of this year, it should be possible,” said Visa Philippines Country Manager Jeffrey Navarro.
RCBC Executive Vice President Lito Villanueva added, “Yes, definitely we’re looking forward to having to launch LRT-1 and LRT-2 together with the DOTr before the end of the year.”
A pilot program of 145 7-Eleven stores is already testing the service, with staff undergoing training to ensure awareness and smooth adoption. Commuters and customers will also be able to use Google Pay on smartphones at participating LRT stations and stores once the service is fully rolled out.
