A 35-year-old man was arrested in Payatas after a witness allegedly linked him to the theft of a motorcycle, but police have yet to recover the stolen vehicle.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said the victim parked his 2018 Yamaha Mio Sporty along Clemente Street in Barangay Payatas at around 8 p.m. on August 17.

When the owner returned at about 5 a.m. the following day, the motorcycle was gone, prompting him to report the incident to the Payatas Bagong Silangan Police Station.

Investigators later obtained information from a witness who allegedly identified alias “Roy” as the suspect. Police said the witness recognized him partly through the violet jersey he was allegedly wearing during the incident.

A follow-up operation led to the suspect’s arrest at around 10 p.m. on August 18. Authorities recovered the jersey allegedly connected to the incident, but not the motorcycle.

QCPD said a records check showed the suspect had previously faced theft cases in December 2023 and July 2025, as well as two cases involving illegal numbers games in 2025.

The suspect is set to face a complaint for violation of Republic Act No. 10883, or the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016, before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
