Villanueva asks if VP Duterte was involved in deed of sale for Carpio property

MANILA – Senator-judge Joel Villanueva on Thursday questioned a land registration official about whether Vice President Sara Duterte had any involvement in a deed of sale covering a property registered under her husband, Atty. Manases Carpio.

During the 32nd day of Duterte’s impeachment trial, Villanueva asked Register of Deeds IV Kathy Florence Baldonado whether the Vice President had signed the deed of sale or indicated her consent to the transaction.

Baldonado said Duterte did not sign the document.

She told the impeachment court that Carpio signed the deed of sale as the vendee, while the document did not indicate any consent or acknowledgment from Duterte as his spouse.

Baldonado was subpoenaed to testify regarding a property in Matina, Davao City, allegedly belonging to Carpio, as the prosecution continued presenting evidence on allegations involving Duterte’s wealth and asset disclosures.

The testimony forms part of the prosecution’s case under Article II, which includes allegations that Duterte failed to fully and truthfully disclose her and her spouse’s assets, liabilities and net worth. The allegations remain contested and subject to the impeachment court’s evaluation of the evidence.
