MANILA – Singapore-based Vena Energy’s planned PHP245 billion expansion is set to add 2.6 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity in the Philippines, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said on Saturday.

The firm, which has been operating in the country since 2014, has 0.9 GW of operational capacity, including solar facilities in Ilocos Norte and Negros Occidental.

A further 1.3 GW is under construction, while another 1.3 GW is contracted, representing approximately 2.6 GW of capacity under construction or under contract.

The DTI said the project is expected to strengthen the country’s clean power supply and support the electricity needs of rapidly growing industries.

“Reliable and competitive power infrastructure is vital for scaling industries and growing investments,” Trade Secretary Cristina Roque said in a news release.

“Vena Energy’s strategic capacity expansion directly strengthens our clean energy grid, ensuring that our expanding industrial sectors have dependable, sustainable power to fuel long-term operations.”

In the meeting, Vena Energy discussed its wider renewable energy and energy storage pipeline, project development, and streamlining of grid integration.

The firm presented the expansion plans during a business meeting with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Roque, and Finance Secretary Frederick Go in Singapore on Oct. 11.

Echoing Roque, Go said the firm’s investments in the country help fast-track the Philippines’ green transition and align well with the administration’s push to reduce electricity costs and strengthen energy security.

On the government’s side, the DTI said it will step up efforts to “translate investor confidence into immediate operational momentum.”

“Through our Green Lanes and investment incentives under CREATE MORE, we can help qualified projects navigate approvals and proceed with greater certainty,” Roque said.

“The DTI stands ready to turn investor confidence into operating projects that will strengthen the Philippine economy.” (PNA)
