Van Ramoga, Calvo dominate Sunrise Sprint Triathlon

James Van Ramoga and Sofia Adriana Calvo emerged victorious in their respective divisions at the Sunrise Sprint Triathlon held last Sunday in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

Van Ramoga conquered the 750m swim, 20km bike, and 5km run with a time of 1 hour, 17 minutes, and 37 seconds, narrowly edging out John Paul Daquioag (1:17:46) and Mejares Naune Elison (1:21:07) to claim the men’s title.

In the women’s division, Calvo secured the championship with a strong performance, clocking in at 1:39:17. She finished ahead of Lucienne Aragones (1:44:15) and Princess Kedtag (1:52:17).

Meanwhile, in the IRONMAN 70.3 event, Bastien Poupelain of France and Agnieszka Najnigier-Pierzynowska of Poland took home the top honors.
Poupelain clinched victory in the men’s category with a time of 4:24:19, outpacing Japan’s Hidekazu Takahashi (4:26:26) and Czech Republic’s Petr Lukosz (4:34:45).

In the women’s division, Najnigier-Pierzynowska dominated the competition, finishing in 5:33:32, ahead of Great Britain’s Emma Rickard (5:40:49) and Hong Kong’s Nicole Chau (5:46:43).

Among the top Filipino finishers, JS Teves placed 4th in the men’s division with a time of 4:36:44, while Mary Pauline Fornea ranked 5th in the women’s division at 5:49:19. Both athletes were awarded P50,000 each by Princesa Garden Hotel for their outstanding performances.

Additionally, Team Tandika Tri, representing Puerto Princesa City, won P200,000 for fielding the largest delegation with 42 members.
