Young Valenzuelanos were recognized for their talent in writing and visual arts during the awarding ceremony of the second editions of the “Susulat Ako” Story Writing Contest and “Guguhit Ako” Story Illustration Contest at Valenzuela City Hall on Sept. 29.
Carrying the theme “Pangarap,” the competitions sought to encourage young people to develop their interest and skills in reading, storytelling and illustration.
Sophie Danielle S. Gonzales of La Consolacion College Valenzuela emerged as champion of the Guguhit Ako: 2nd Story Illustration Contest, earning the Young Illustrator Award.
Gonzales received a Php 20,000 cash prize, a certificate and a laptop, while her school received Php 10,000.
In the Susulat Ako: 2nd Story Writing Contest, Riza D. Mondero of Sitero Francisco Memorial National High School received the Young Author Award.
Aijhel Lozano Tenio of Mapulang Lupa National High School placed second, while Jhusztyn Caile M. Suñer of St. Joseph School of Lawang Bato Inc. finished third.
Richea Marie I. Mallabo of Disiplina Village Bignay National High School received the Mayor’s Choice Award, while Reynalyn F. Bunag of Malinta National High School-Senior High School was given the Best Effort Award.
The initiative, led by the city government under Mayor Wes Gatchalian and spearheaded as a project of Tiffany Gatchalian, aims to provide young residents with opportunities to develop and showcase their creativity.
The city government said it would continue supporting programs that promote literature and the arts among Valenzuelano youth.
