The University of Santo Tomas (UST) officially set the tone for UAAP Season 88 on Wednesday with the unveiling of its theme song and logo, highlighting a celebration of unity, resilience, and shared purpose.

The winning anthem, Strength in Motion, Hope in Action, was written by Louell Baldoza, assistant professor at the UST Institute of Religion. Chosen from 13 entries submitted last March, the upbeat percussive piece captures the spirit of the season with lines like “for courage blooms where kindness lies” and “hands will clash yet souls align.”

“There were two judges who wanted a Filipino entry, but after deliberation, they felt this song truly embodied the Thomasian spirit. It’s very positive, very inspiring,” said UST Conservatory of Music Dean Maria Alexandra Chua, who chaired the committee for the theme song, during the press launch at the Buenaventura Garcia Paredes, O.P. Building.

Other top entries included Posible ang Lahat by alumnus Eric Advincula and Di Aatras by College of Education assistant professor John Valeroso.

Pop-rock artist and Thomasian alumnus Kean Cipriano of Callalily gave the anthem its live debut, describing the performance as a career milestone. “I’ve been in this industry for 20 years, but this is the most nervous I’ve ever been onstage. This song represents so many people and milestones—it encompasses everything,” Cipriano said.

The official Season 88 logo was also revealed, symbolizing the solidarity and teamwork of the UAAP’s eight member schools.

The league’s golden season will formally open on Sept. 19 at the UST Grandstand and Open Field. The festivities begin with a Eucharistic Mass at 2 p.m., followed by the main program at 6 p.m., featuring the athletes’ parade, oath of sportsmanship, lighting of the cauldron, a drone and fireworks display, and a concert headlined by a major OPM act.

Organizers are preparing for up to 30,000 attendees, including Thomasians, alumni, UAAP stakeholders, and about 1,000 delegates per school. Should bad weather intervene, the opening will move to Sept. 22.

“We want the UAAP community to experience the festive atmosphere of iconic UST traditions like Paskuhan,” said Rev. Fr. Rodel Cansancio, president of the UAAP Board of Managing Directors.
