University of Santo Tomas-B stamped its class with a commanding 25-11, 25-15 victory over guest squad Diverse Auckland Cubs on Friday, completing a sweep of Pool F in the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball Invitational League (SGVIL) Rising Stars Cup Division 2 at the La Salle Green Hills Gym.
Khurztein Asumbra powered the Junior Golden Tigresses with an all-around effort, tallying 10 points built on six attacks, three service aces, and a block. Taj Teves and Ava Cinco provided solid support with eight and six points, respectively, as UST-B controlled the match from start to finish.
With a flawless run in the group stage, UST-B advances to the knockout quarterfinals on Wednesday, where it will face the No. 2 seed from Pool H.
Elsewhere, St. Theresa’s College-QC edged Poveda College in a tight contest, 26-24, 25-22, leaving both teams with identical 2-1 records.
In Pool E, Corpus Christi School emerged as one of the day’s busiest—and most successful—teams, scoring back-to-back wins. It first dispatched San Beda University, 25-15, 25-13, before outlasting MGC-New Life Christian Academy, 25-21, 25-23. Miriam College also impressed, sweeping The Beacon Academy, 25-17, 25-14.
Pool H saw Bacolod Tay Tung-B boost its quarterfinal bid after a 25-11, 25-22 triumph over St. John’s Institute-B, improving to 3-1. The squad looks to seal its place in the next round when it takes on De La Salle Zobel-B on Sunday, aiming to join unbeaten University of Batangas (4-0).
Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu continued its strong showing with a 25-17, 25-19 win over St. Paul College-Pasig, securing its third victory against two losses.
In Pool G, National University-Nazareth School-B extended its winning streak to three with a hard-earned victory over Immaculate Conception Academy, 25-14, 25-27, while St. Jude Parish School claimed its third win in four outings after defeating Assumption Antipolo, 25-19, 25-17.
Division 1 action also delivered decisive results, with Far Eastern University-Diliman overpowering University of the Philippines Integrated School, 25-12, 25-11. De La Salle-Lipa survived a gritty three-setter against San Felipe Neri Catholic School, 22-25, 25-23, 18-16, while University of Perpetual Help System Dalta subdued Holy Rosary College, 25-19, 25-15.
