Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization said on Sunday that US forces had attacked the unfinished Darkhovin nuclear power plant in the country’s southwestern region.
The agency confirmed the strike in a statement posted on X but did not disclose the extent of the damage to the facility.
It also did not say whether workers were present at the site or if the attack caused any casualties.
Iranian authorities described Darkhovin as a civilian nuclear facility operating under international safeguards.
The organization maintained that targeting the plant violated international law governing protected nuclear installations.
The reported attack came as fighting between the United States and Iran continued to intensify across the Middle East.
Tehran had responded to earlier US strikes by targeting facilities and bases it said were being used by American forces in several countries in the region.
The renewed hostilities persisted despite a Pakistan-brokered agreement signed in June that sought to end the conflict and establish a lasting peace settlement.
